When I was working for the Bridger-Teton National Forest we had a "field day" where all the crews from around the forest got together to consolidate techniques and meet everyone from the other crews.
It was a great day. Hazard pay for doing "Hover Hookups", burning a little sagebrush, putting it out with the engines and the portable pumps, setting up blivits and porta-tanks.
Right here you can see what a Hover Hookup is..

We spent a week in "Helitak" training to learn such things.

Eating smoke is really a lot funner than it sounds...
Because there are some really fun ways to put fire out..
.. A Running Attack - where the fire engine follows the "hoser" around and you get a lot of water down on a large area in a short time..
And then it gets really interesting !!
Then finally at the end of the day you realize what a team you have become.
Look for lots more coming in the future. If you read the other page (the all text one) then you know that I have alot of great pics from Idaho and Colorado, too!
